Solution to Follow Our Rules

By Ankur Mehta

This puzzle references the Daily Cal puzzle column "Fiat Enigma" that we ran during Spring 2012. Each issue presents a new rule for solving puzzles. Taking the word immediately following the bolded rule in each issue as indicated by the title yields the phrase "Take starting and ending letters of each intro paragraph." The introduction issue did not have a rule, but if you do what was told, you extract the letters "AUTHORBOSSES". Each issue also had a byline containing a fictional character with a well known superior / supervisor. In order, they are:

IssueAuthorBoss
1Peter ParkerJ. Jonah Jameson
2QueequegCaptain Ahab
3DozerMorpheus
4Number 2Dr. Evil
5ShenziScar
6JadeiteQueen Beryl
7HeimdallOdin
8Dorian TyrellNiko
9Prof. McGonagallDumbledore

Taking the first letters of the bosses' names (ignoring the titles) spells out "JAMESBOND", whose boss in turn is the answer, M.
